Database Development
Even though I consider myself a “Jack-of-All-Trades” when it comes to software tools and technologies, the majority of my experience lies in database tools and reporting. I started out writing stand-alone databases applications and wrote many client-server systems after that. For the last few years, I have been focused on creating reports from transaction-based systems, mostly in MySQL, Sybase and Oracle. Here are a few highlights:

  • I have written hundreds of automated reports using Business Objects and Cognos for AOL management.
  • In 2001, I won an award at America Online for my work on a web-based document repository that stored documents securely in a CVS repository.
  • I used UNIX shell scripts, Perl, and SQL to automate database reports that were emailed in HTML format.
  • I wrote a Help Desk system that interfaced with personnel and IT inventory in an Oracle database.
  • I have written several tracking systems for NASA and a defense contractor (Astronautics/Singer-Kearfott).
Web Development
With several years of development experience for the web, I have worked in a variety of roles from software developer to web administrator and application support.
Here are some of the things I have done:

  • I have written multi-tiered applications that interfaced with web, email, file, application, and database servers.
  • I developed code to control web interfaces through secure login for multiple browsers and platforms.
  • I have extensive experience with SQL in Oracle, Sybase, MySQL, and FileMaker Pro databases.
  • My best skills are in designing clean user interfaces using Photoshop and then HTML and CSS.
  • I excel in dealing with end-users, developers, and executive staff to formulate system requirements and present my ideas in a clear, professional manner.
  • I have trained many types of people on the applications that I developed and handled support over the phone and through email.
Tech Support
Currently, I do software development in a lab that does automated testing of other software as well as web-based applications. I create the scripts that control the reimaging and software installation for over 250 machines. In the past, I worked as a developer in IT departments, who all wore a "help desk support" hat. I include this is to give you an idea of my versatility and problem solving skills. Here are a few of the things I have done:

  • I installed file servers, networked PCs, hard disks, memory, network cables, routers, printers, network cards and hubs for the company network as well as client systems.
  • I have supported over 1,500 users on various platforms and operating systems at NASA, The Department of Education, and The Department of Transportation.
  • For the Peace Corps, I traveled to several countries to install ethernet wiring, file servers, software applications, PC upgrades, and provided training in a short period of time in each country.
  • I have taught classes on COTS applications, email, Internet use and internally developed systems.
  • In the 90's, I tutored the Director of the Peace Corps (Mark Gearan) on computer skills.
